SWOT Assessment of the Information Technology
in a Public/nonprofit Organization
As stated in the syllabus, you are expected to select a public/nonprofit organization and conduct a Strength, Weakness, Opportunity and Threat (SWOT) assessment, with a particular focus on the information technology (IT) of the organization. The organization can be the one where you work, participate, or are familiar with.
As you have learned in previous module, IT is deployed to help to achieve the mission of the organization. Hence, in your evaluation process, you should always keep in mind the mission and the key products and/or services of the organization.
You can start this analysis by reviewing strategic plan and/or mission statements, IT strategic plans, current IT portfolio and artifacts of the organization of your selection. It is an opportunity to look at the organization from a strategic and system perspective with a particular drill-down into the technologies used to fulfill its mission. This analysis also helps to address how efficiency and effectiveness are affected by the current IT being used and how adoption of different technologies may result in change.
