Project Briefing
Directions:
Complete this project and submit ONE word document and Include any ILS charts you use and write out the minimums.
Ensure you provide AMPLE detail for each section of the legalities and the standard weather briefing. For example, if there is a thunderstorm in the forecast- where is the TS, times, height, speed, how will it affect your flight, any changes you would make to the flight?
The most important part of this project is showing you understand how weather effects the safety of flight. Explain the effect of flying through the front. If there is icing, where is it, type, intensity, duration, location, do you have equipment to handle, etc.
Start with the legalities- Are you legal to takeoff? Do you need a takeoff alternate? Are you legal to dispatch to your destination? Do you need destination alternate(s)? Provide justifications for all components.
o If there is a reason this flight cannot be made legally/safely, provide a solution and then dispatch the flight accordingly. If there is a way to delay with the MELs- this is the procedure; however, if a delay would not allow MEL compliance, then you can swap planes or fix the aircraft (but this is the second option)
o List the runway and approaches used for each airport, along with the wind component (For example, 5 kt headwind)
o If alternates are required, just state you determined one is required (takeoff or destination alternate(s)), but you do not actually have to list the alternate airport you would select.
Address each component of the standard weather briefing. Decode every chart, forecast, report, and then explain how this may affect your flight, what action to take, etc.
Select an optimal flight level
Is a direct flight to your destination safe and legal? Is a reroute needed? Will additional fuel be required?
