Think of an organization that you are or have been part of - a workplace, religious or volunteer organization, even your own family. What changes did this organization make to adapt to the pandemic situation of the last year? What further adaptation will be necessary as the situation improves?
During the pandemic for the last two years my job has added a lot of different protocols for the employees. Most employees were upgraded with new lap tops with updated security systems since 90% of the company was working from home. The work from home aspect was already a weekly thing so most employees were already comfortable with being at home. The company allowed disconnect days were you could just disconnect from work and destress and deal with anything personal. We also saw increased work loads and delays in a lot of documentation. So protocols were put in place to keep the line of business moving. The company also covered paid Covid sick time which did not affect our vacation days or sick time allowed by the company. They started a counseling programs for all employees who wanted to sign up. The company offered free Covid testing for employees and families. If employees needed to return to the office parking was free but limited. They increased the tuition reimbursements for Master degrees. They started other financial programs sign up one being the first time home buyer class.
As the situation improves my company will have to adapt to the business culture out there. Goods and cost of living is becoming more expenses employees are looking for bonuses and salary increases. Many companies saw a mass exit of employees seeking employment to other companies offering more money for the same position. The work from home is an asset and not a failure. Many employees can spend extra time with family members, call out less and be more attentive in putting extra hours into work. The pandemic has taught many companies employees are valuable. It has also taught many employees to live within their means. Companies must keep their employees engaged and rewarded.
