Question

A 3 year old male patient presents to your clinic for a wellness check. In the preceding visits, the child has been evaluated multiple times for acute otitis media and concerns for delayed speech. At the last visit, an ENT referral was placed for evaluation of myringotomy tube placement. The surgery was 3 months ago. Today, the mother has continued concerns for speech delay, as the patient is using a single word to request things and becomes frustrated with not being able to communicate. She also reports that he throws tantrums at times with behavior that includes hitting and biting.
