Question

Dr. Cole is a cardiologist that owns her own private practice. Dr. Cole likes to follow her patients that need acute medical care for cardiac related issues in the hospital setting. Mr. Tom Morrow is a patient of Dr. Cole and has had ongoing cardiac issues, most notably he has been dealing with congestive heart failure. Mr. Morrow experiences chest pain, headache and weakness. Mr. Morrow has previously suffered a minor heart attack and feels pretty certain that he is suffering another heart attack. Mr. Morrow call's Dr. Cole's office and relays his symptoms and concerns. Upon Dr. Cole's staff advising her of Mr. Morrow's symptoms, Dr. Cole instructs Mr. Morrow to call 911 and be transported, via ambulance, to Metro Crest Hospital. Dr. Cole calls Metro Crest Hospital and informs the Emergency Room Doctor, Dr. Ash, that Mr. Morrow was enroute, via ambulance, and that he believed that Mr. Morrow needed to be a "direct admit" based upon his symptoms and prior history of cardiac issues. Dr. Ash agrees with Dr. Cole and places an order to ensure that Mr. Morrow is directly admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Metro Crest Hospital. Mr. Morrow arrives to Metro.
