According to the Pentagon, as of July 7, there were 154 suicides among active-duty troops in 2012, a rate of nearly one each day this year. This is an 18% increase over the 130 active-duty military suicides for the same period in 2011.

By contrast, from January 1 through June 1, 2012, the Pentagon reported that there were 124 American military fatalities in Afghanistan. (https://www.defense.gov/news/newsarticle.aspx?id=116679)
