As explained in the book, defendants are most of the time, unknown people, accused of committing offenses and crimes. The typical defendant, however, is known to be a "nobody." Statistically, males are most likely to commit crimes and are arrested much more frequently than females. Crimes such as murder, rape, and weapon offenses, which are violent crimes, males seem to have a higher rate in arrests for. In comparison to crimes such as fraud and forgery, women are seen to be arrested more equally with men. While crimes such as child abuse and infanticide are more likely to be committed by women rather than men. In terms of why women are most likely to commit these crimes are because historically women have been more involved in child care responsibilities, rather than men, while men are the ones who were relied on for making money, protecting the family, and being the bigger physical role.
