Access to Healthcare in Nevada The state of Nevada's highest populations resides in Washoe and Clark Counties. These counties encompass the cities of Reno and Las Vegas. Of the 3.2 million residents, 644,835 of them reside in Las Vegas and around 265,196 reside in Reno. Many of the remaining population are in the rural counties sprinkled around the state. This geographical composition of the state with the two densest cities in the north and south end provides a unique access to health care issue. A few factors that influence an individuals' ability to access healthcare in Nevada are the availability of the services and the ability to receive health care services that are near to and within a timely manner. The average distance between acute care hospitals in rural Nevada and the next level of care hospital is 109 miles and the average distance to the nearest hospital is 56 miles.
