Case Study Analysis - Brainstorm and analyze consent case study C. is a devout Jehovah's Witness. A teaching of her religion is that it is wrong to accept blood transfusions because they are understood to be equivalent to eating blood, a practice prohibited by the Bible. She is pregnant, and insists to her obstetrician that if she hemorrhages during her delivery the physician cannot give her any transfusions. The obstetrician objects, because of the small but real risk to her and her baby. Even if she is willing to accept the risks involved, can she make this decision for her baby? Should the physician try to overrule her refusal, by either going to the ethics committee or the courts?
