When reading your post, I learned that the age group included in the opioid crisis numbers went as low as 12 years old; before this, I assumed the age range started at 18, which is a bit disturbing. I would be interested in the statistics on how many users are children. After doing some research for a response to my post, I found that telemedicine has been found to have a large contribution to the opioid crisis. Rao (2020) states, "Assessment via the physical exam may be limited as the provider may be unable to perform common maneuvers to aid in the differential diagnosis, or the patient's pain may limit the active range of motion." This would make it harder for the provider to determine whether the medications are too effective or not effective enough. I understand that telemedicine was used originally to keep high-risk patients from contracting covid, but I feel that we are past the necessity. What do you think about telemedicine's role in the opioid crisis?
