You are serving as a Chief of Police for a medium sized US community. The department currently has 7 open officer positions and you have been approved to hire five new officer positions.

Historically, the department has had difficulty finding quality officers to fill open positions, and the current racial/ethnic makeup of the department does not reflect the community they serve. Two members of the city council have told you that if you would lower the current hiring standards, they could recruit officers for you that would increase diversity.

Develop a written recruitment plan that addresses hiring standards for the agency. The recruitment plan should address the following factors:

Justify either maintaining the current standards or lowering the standards to increase the number of applicants.

Identify the standards you think are important for officers to meet.
