The type of crime I will be talking about is non-violent crime. Non-violent crimes are crimes that do not cause any injury or damage to a person and often include damage or theft of property. To me conflict theory provides the best explanation for deviance in society. According to conflict theory there are 2 types of people, the wealthy, and the poor. In the book "Introduction to sociology" by Conerly, T.R., Holmes, K., and Tamang, A.L, it talks about a German philosopher and sociologist named Karl Marx. According to Marx, the wealthy controlled the business, and the poor relied on those businesses to survive. He also believed the wealthy had influence over the government and agencies like the police which allowed them to keep their money and power. Another sociologist named C. Wright Mills has similar beliefs. He speaks of a small group of he calls the "Power Elite" being the people who make all the decisions and laws for the rest of society. Some of these people include politicians, celebrities, and wealthy business owners. He believes that since these people have such an influence over society, they can stay on top unscathed.
