Question

The average American spends about four hours per day consuming some form of media, be it television or movies. Because media is such a staple in our lives, this film asks you to critically analyze at least 100 minutes of media from a sociological perspective. The media can either be multiple episodes of one television show, or one film. Please note, you need to do more than simply summarize the film, and instead, draw from your readings and other course materials to apply at least 2 sociological concepts. For example, you can apply any of the following sociological concepts (this list is not exhaustive): Socialization Dramaturgy George Herbert Mead's stages of development The Looking Glass Self Conflict Theory Symbolic interactionism Functionalism Feminism Types of groups Group size and power dynamics in groups Group conformity Groupthink Rationalization McDonaldization Cultural relativism Ethnocentrism Cultural consumption Cultural capital By "applying" these concepts, you need to do more than just define the concepts, but discuss how they relate to the film or television episodes of your choice. Once you've chosen your film or television series, you should take notes, either by handwriting or typing. Take note of any specific themes or scenes that stand out to you, that you can use as examples of the sociological concept you are analyzing.
