Recording about field placement

This events at my placement are what occured this week. They had a sport and entertainment in the school gyms, which was fantastic. My supervisor oversaw the sports programs, so I had to assist him by talking to the children who were taking part in the games and those who weren't, as well as helping him with the after-school program. That was a little difficult because there were many students to speak with that day.

A. Record your experiences, reflecting on your thoughts, feelings and reactions

i. Comment on the skills you are developing (research, communication with peers, presentations, etc). Comment on what you did well.

ii. Comment on your challenges and limitations. Comment on obstacles.

iii. Comment on how you propose to improve in those areas where you feel improvement is needed.

iv. Identify emotions experienced during your experience. (Surprise, confusion, hurt, angry, sad, etc.) Explore these feelings and why you felt this way. What did you do with these emotions? Is there anything you would do differently in the same or similar situation?

B. Note questions, ideas and discoveries

i. List questions you have about the knowledge you've gained regarding: treatment approaches, agency procedures, or specific client diagnosis or behaviours.

ii. Comment on any new discoveries you may have made.

iii. Identify any areas in which you did ask, or plan to ask, your liaison or peers for assistance.

C. Role of a Social Service Worker (Refer to the powerpoint entitled "SSW Roles and Intervention

i. Comment on the SSW role(s) that you see professionals in the agencies you are studying performing.

ii. Recognize any thoughts you have about performing those roles in the future. Do they relate to any experience you have previously had with friends, family or work.

D. Discuss the attention you have given to your goals as listed in your Learning Contract. What steps are you taking towards achieving those goals?
