You are the Chief Strategy Consultant for Maze Corporation a corporation of more than 10,000 employees with offices in 20 countries including the United States. Maze has $112 billion in annual revenues. The company's mission is to help provide all people better lives through world class products. The CEO of Maze has asked you about a corporate social responsibility project that was recently floated at a meeting. Several employees want the company to support a fund raising and assistance campaign of an organization called WE ARE THE WORLD (WATW). WATW does humanitarian work across the globe and could be a great fit for the company to market its efforts in some third world markets that are targets of its 5 year plan. Maze is interested in helping with food and clothing for 6 orphanages WATW sponsors. The efforts will cost about $2,000.00 with the rest of the funds coming from employee donations. The financial benefit to the bottom line is about $100,000.00 in the next 2 years. Despite WATW seemingly sterling reputation it has been accused of funding terrorism by some governments across the world as a result of one of WATW's volunteer's shooting an armed guard at a children's military camp in Sudan. The CEO wants to know what she should do? Should Maze assist WATW? Why/Why not? (You must discuss the benefits, consequences and alternatives if applicable).
