Question

A 20 - year old woman comes into the emergency room complaining of abdominal pain and diarrhea with traces of mucus. The nurse takes her temperature and finds that it is 103\ deg F . The woman had originally thought that she had a touch of food poisoning from a new Chinese restaurant she and her boyfriend had tried, but she had now been experiencing her symptoms for about three days. When the doctor asked what else she had eaten, the woman broke down, admitted that her boyfriend had broken up with her immediately after the Chinese restaurant, causing her to eat an entire tube of raw chocolate chip cookie dough. The doctor expresses his condolences on her break - up and then warns her about eating foods with raw eggs in the future. He tells her that she will have to wait out the symptoms, which should clear in another 3 - 5 days. He says that he won ' t prescribe antibiotics at this point, because they may just exacerbate her symptoms. What does the woman have and what is the likely causative agent?
