4. For the quantitative component, the statistical tests (ran on SPSS) chosen by students to analyse the data will need to be taken from the selection of parametric tests covered in the Quantitative and Qualitative Analysis class (see below).
5. Please ensure to stick within the outlined word count (see below).
6. Ensure that you reference in accordance with the APA 6th edition format.

Details of assignment brief
Important Points to Note
• The Lab Report requires the student to systematically prepare a report in accordance with the scientific method applied to the discipline of psychology, this includes but is not limited to
o Appropriate structure of Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, References and Appendix.
o Ensuring all central variables are adequately defined.
o Provide a literature review and supplement research questions with reference to the literature, particularly with research articles.
• The questionnaire is made up of a number of demographic questions and a number of scale variables in the SPSS file and a qualitative question in the excel file. The student is required to choose particular variables to focus on in the SPSS file, and develop two hypotheses to develop a Lab report around.
o Title should be between 12 and 15 words.
o Should contain an abstract containing the appropriate content with a word count of 150 words.
o For the Introduction, they will choose the literature that is appropriate to the hypotheses they have developed and develop a rationale for the report. The two hypotheses and qualitative research question should be listed at the end of the introduction.
o The Method should detail all the key sections of participants, materials (information on the measures used in their study), design, and procedure.
o The Results section should include the reporting of the appropriate analysis that was conducted for addressing the hypotheses for the quantitative component, and the themes developed from the thematic analysis in NVivo for the qualitative component as detailed below.
o The Discussion should outline the findings in terms of previous research and the hypotheses and research question and then critique the study in terms of strengths, limitations, applications, implications, and future directions, finishing the section with a conclusion.
o These sections should follow with a Reference section and Appendices.
Requirements for Quantitative Analysis
1. An SPSS file is up on Moodle for the quantitative aspect of the report.
2. Examine the dataset and develop two different hypotheses to test in your report.
3. The hypotheses must be tested using one of the tests covered in the module (i.e. you must use this material from the Quantitative and Qualitative Analysis). Each hypothesis needs to be answered by a separate statistical test (i.e. you could run a one-way ANOVA for H1 and a multiple regression for H2, or separate multiple regressions for each hypothesis etc.).
4. Run the analysis for each of the hypotheses.
5. Include at least one chart depicting the findings.
6. In your results for each of the tests:
a. List the hypothesis
b. State the test that you conducted
c. Report the findings of the test in journal format.
Requirements for Qualitative Analysis
1. An excel file of qualitative data is on Moodle for the assessment
2. Using the steps shown in class, import the data as survey data in to NVivo.
3. Using the notes from class to go through the appropriate stages to develop the nodes.
a. Including child-nodes where relevant.
4. Build upon this to develop the themes in the data with supporting nodes.
a. Build four themes.
5. Once completed, now develop a thematic model mapping the themes in the data to demonstrate the hierarchical nature of the data and analysis.
7. In your results section:
a. Copy the model into the results section.
b. For each of the themes:
i. State the theme and describe it (defining what it is).
ii. Give two key quotes that depict the theme.
iii. Include a sentence of a conclusion regarding each of the themes in the data.
• The word count, as described in the first table, is 2,500 words. Lab Reports will be accepted within 10% of either side, between 2,250 words and 2,750 words will be accepted without word count penalty. The word count does not include either the Title, Abstract, Reference or the Appendix section.
o With regard to the word count, it is important that the ‘Title' of your report is no more than 15 words in length, and the ‘Abstract' is to be no more than 150 words in length. The other sections do not have strict word lengths.
