A woman enters an elevator and stands on a scale. As the elevator begins to move the scale reads her apparent weight to be591 N. As the elevator slows to a stop the scale reads her apparent weight to be 391 N.

1. Illustrate a free body diagram for the woman showing the short and long range forces acting on the women for both cases i.e. starting and stopping. Indicate the direction of the women's acceleration in both cases.

2. Write two equations: one for the women accelerating down and one for the net force acting on the women accelerating up.

3. Assuming the size of the acceleration is the same when stopping and starting determine the weight of the women. (you need to do some "pretty good " algebra and solve two equations with two unknowns)
