A Steel beam is supported on eachend by columns in a building.   The beam is designed tohold a 10kN heating unit at mid span. There are no other loads onthe beam. Using G40.21 350W steel, select the lightest W shapes forthe beam. Assume there is full lateral support. Consider Moment, Shear and Deflection. The beam is simplysupported. If the heating unit hangs as shown in the drawing willthe beam be able to bear the load?
