Mars. It’s far away and pretty damned cold and inhospitable. And if we ever want to colonize the place, it’s going to cost a ton of money to do so. Question; which sort of society is more likely to a) want to colonize Mars and, b) have the wherewithal to actually get there? Is it 1) a society rooted in Utilitarian/Consequentialist principles, or 2) a society rooted in Ethical Egoism? In answering your question, be sure to explain the motives that would drive this endeavor, counter-arguments that would be made against such a venture, and how the entire undertaking would be justified. You may also consider why either, or both societies would reject such a project.
