A jet engine is tested in a stationary test stand to measure its static thrust. The density of the incoming air is Rho(i) = 1.2 kg/m3. At the exit, the velocity is uniform and directed along the negative y-axis with a magnitude of Ve = 450 m/s. The exhaust is at an elevated temperature, with a uniform density of Rho(e) = 0.6 kg/m^3, and exits over an area of Ae = 1.4 m^2.
a) Calculate the velocity magnitude, Vi, at the inlet to the control volume shown.b) Calculate the net momentum flux in the y-direction through the control volume shown.c) Following a streamline upstream from the inlet, one will eventually reach a point wherethe velocity is zero and the pressure is at atmospheric levels. Use this information to calculate the pressure on the control volume inlet.
