A cantilever beam AB has a rectangular cross section and is loaded by a force P at an angle α that acts at the centroid of the cross section. Two strain gages are placed at point C, which is at mid-height of the beam. Gage D measures the strain in the horizontal direction and gage E measure the strain at an angle β. The measured strains are εD = 145 x10-6 and εE = 165 x10-6, respectively. Find the force P and angle α, assuming the material is steel. The self weight of the beam can be neglected.
