A Brayton cycle is the same as the Rankine cycle, but it takes place in the ideal gas region of states. A large stationary Brayton cycle gas-turbine power plant delivers a power output of 100 MW to an electric generator. The minimum temperature in the cycle is 300 K, and the maximum temperature is 1600 K. The minimum pressure in the cycle is 100 kPa, and the compressor pressure ratio is 14 to 1. Assume that the compressor has an isentropic efficiency of 85% and the turbine an isentropic efficiency of 88%.

Q1. Calculate the power output of the turbine.
Q2. What fraction of the turbine output is required to drive the compressor?
Q3. What is the thermal efficiency of the cycle?
Q4. What are the ways to improve this efficiency?
Q5. Describe a practical application of such cycle.
Q6. Draw all diagrams (cycle, P-v, T-s)
