An individual reflective report (2,000 words +/- 10%)reflecting on the development of a set of skills related to managing change and/or holding difficult conversations. The skills will be identified in advance along with the approach to developing these, in a process to be agreed by the module leader.
Learning Outcome 1: Work collaboratively and build positive relationships, using a range of interpersonal skills. Manage talent and incentivize performance.
Learning Outcome 2: Respect and appreciate diverse cultures, customs and values, being mindful of the potentially competing needs of different communities and the need for socially responsible behaviour.
Learning Outcome 3: Demonstrate the ability to be adaptable and resilient enough to cope with uncertainty and turnaround; leading change and managing crises.
For those undertaking the role play:
Prior to the role play you will need to complete the scenario planning form and forward to the module leader. You will also need to prepare for the scenario in terms of your planned approach.
Following the role play, write a reflective report of 2,000 words,to include the following
i. What skill did you choose and why? What did you do in terms of preparation? What were your intended strategy and objectives?
ii. Evaluation of your performance in the role play in terms of the following:
• What you did well
• What you might have done better, on reflection (with reference to models of reflection if helpful/appropriate).
• Identification of further learning needs
iii. Following on from the above, the second part of your report should detail what you have done to meet these learning needs. This will require evidence of further reading or use of other resources. These might relate toparticular personal skills, such as assertiveness, your response to conflictor ability to manage difficult situations. It may also include reference to particular skills such as performance management and the role of the manager. You are not required to demonstrate any specialist HR knowledge in this report, rather you should demonstrate awareness of general principles and the learning outcomes for this module. For example,the need to be aware and respectful of different cultures (learning outcome 4), the building of positive relationships (learning outcome 3) and your own personal ability to be adaptable and resilient (learning outcome 6).
iv. The report should be well-written, coherent with a logical structure and properly referenced, using the Harvard referencing system. For those not participating in the role play workshop:
If you decide not to participate in the role play workshop you should agree with the module leader the process by which you will develop skills related to managing change and/or holding difficult conversations. You will need to provide a written proposal and receive email agreement as to the proposed process.
Your report should include:
I. What skills did you choose and why? How did you plan to develop these skills? What were your intended strategy and objectives?
II. Reflection on the process, what went well and what do you need to develop further(with reference to models of reflection if helpful/appropriate).
III. Following on from the above, the second part of your report should detail what you have done to meet these learning needs.
