Assignment Title: Dynamics Coursework

Learning Outcome 1: Analyse different types of rigid body motion
Learning Outcome 2: Model and simulate the dynamic performance of a mechanical system

ASSIGNMENT BRIEFING SHEET

You are to study the kinematics and kinetics of the spiral sliding system shown in Figure 1. The mass of the boy is m kg. The position of the boy is given in the cylindrical coordinate system as radius r = 2 m, angle = θ rad, and vertical position = z m (see Figure 1). Neglect the size of the boy. The values of m, θ and z are specific to each student based on the last three digits of the student serial number, given in the Appendix. Determine the components of the radial force F??, the circumferential force Fθ, and the vertical force Fz which the slide exerts on the boy at time t = 3 s.

Figure 1 Kinematics and kinetics of a spiral sliding system Any resistance force can be ignored.

It is expected that you show in the report the way you worked out the expressions for the kinematics and kinetics of the system.
