Assessment - Project Plan Development
Introductions:
As a project manager you will, along with your team, create a drah project plan to execute a science-related project of your choosing. It is important that your project must be constrained in its scope (i.e., not large) and simple to plan during this semester. II you need assistance you can use this site to help you decide your project. By the first workshop, you will submit your project selection to be discussed for scoping and simplicity.
Do remember during the project plan development part of your responsibility Is to note all of the possibilities that may hinder your progress as well as those that may accelerate its completion. Understanding that a plan should outline the main details of your project, always remember your contingencies and risks. Your team will be there to support you and help you determine the details of your plan. So being constrained and simple is Important for all to work well and assist well.
Requirements for Draft Project Plan:
As pan of the team you are in charge of your project and you have team members who will support your efforts. At this point, management needs to see a draft project plan for the project you intend to manage. Your project must be brief and science-related and should come from your work/school envIronment/disciplIne. The draft project plan will Include the following plans in detail
• A one-page project charter
• The scope management plan
• The time management plan
• The risk management plan
• The stakeholder management plan
Also you will include a reflection statement of what worked and what did not work in your activities to develop your draft project plan.
Instructions
Your peers are your project team members - so if you have three-four peers, between the four to five of you, there are four/five projects that will need draft project plans for development (see illustration
Using the forums and the workshops you will develop parts of your plan and allow your peers and Instructor to read and guide your progress
1. Review the description of a project that you outlined online in Workshop 1 and proceed with completing your project plan.
2. Use examples of project plans to guide your development but do note the elements of the project plans that will be graded.
3. Use the rubrics below to guide your development
Assessment Task 1:
Select a project from your work and create a one-page project charter and a scope management plan. You will self-select yourself into a group which will act as your own project team and using this team you will consult and collaborate on what needs to go into your draft plan and then individually create and submit the charter and the scope management plan for your project. The one-page charter and the scope management plan will include the following:
1. Project statement - science related themed project
2. Intended Details - scope, timelines, risk, stakeholders, including team member roles, etc..
3. Check for completeness of project charter
4. A detailed Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
5. Check for completeness of WBS
6. Supporting information to define what is in scope and what is out of scope
Assessment Task 2:
As you continue to create your project planning documentation, you will reflect on the feedback for Task 1, decide if you wish to improve it (i.e., Task 1) and add a time management and risk management plan. Your Interactions to complete Task 2 will follow Task 1 where you will collaborate with your project team and continue to individually complete your own draft project plan. The assessment task 2 will include:
1. Assessment Task 1 (revised if you wish)
2. Precedence Diagramming Method Diagram
3. Gantt Chart produced using software
4. Supporting information for the time management plan (critical path, lag and lead time, contingencies, etc..)
5. Top 10 Risks in a Matrix by category and Impact (severity and likelihood) - one page
6. Suggested resolutions
Assessment Task 3:
This last submission adds some of the other key elements to your draft project plan. This assignment allows you to reflect on Task 2, make improvements to it if you wish and add a stakeholder management plan. This plan will be influenced by interactions with a variety of stakeholders including those from the First Nations community. Through interactions with First Nations community members additional changes must be made to the draft project plan to ensure that all of the stakeholders are considered.
Your Interactions to complete Task 3 will follow Task 2 where you can Improve Task 2 If you wish and submit Task 3 with Task 2. The stakeholder plan will include:
1. Assessment Task 2 (revised if you wish)
2. Stakeholder Engagement Plan (by role, engagement level, by project phase end Leadership style)
3. Completeness of Engagement Plan (re: Role)
4. Communication method for each stakeholder with examples
5. Reflection on your project plan development
