Part B Extended Answer Questions
Question 1.This is a compulsory question.
There is ongoing discussion on whether sustainable tourism is possible. i) Discuss3 reasons why people think it is possible AND 3 reasons why people think it is not possible; and ii) Reflect on whether and how your opinion has changed since the start of the course and/or due to the current situation regarding COVID-19.
Question 2.
Choose ONE of the following sites: Sydney Opera House, Lamington National Park, or a popular tourist site in your home country (this option is for offshore students ONLY). Answer the following two sub-questions:
i) What are the "4E" strategies for reducing tourism's impacts in management practices of tourist sites/destinations?
ii) Describe, with examples, how each of the "4E" strategies can be used to reduce tourist impact in your chosen site (one example for each strategy).
Question 3.
Mass tourism can produce negative impacts on the local economy and society. One such issue is economic leakage, which may occur as a result of foreign investment.
i) Explain how foreign investment can result in leakage.
ii) Propose 4 strategies that a destination can adopt to reduce such leakage. Explain how these strategies reduce leakage.

A natural attraction can educate its visitors about the environment, in the environment, or for the environment. Read the below information on abirdwatcher lodge.
i) Which type(s) of education does the lodge provide to its guest? Justify your answer with evidence.
ii) Proposeand justify 2 actions for the lodge to improve its environmental education practice.
Question 5.
The example of My Green Butler (Week 10 Workshop) is a good example of a business that shows ‘strong sustainability' according to the continuum of sustainability experiences. Explain the reasons why one would argue My Green Butler is very strong by discussing the relevant 5 dimensions as seen in the below table (Week 10 Workshop):

Some experts believe that the sharing economy is a pathway to sustainability in tourism; others say that the sharing economy may not lead to sustainable tourism outcomes. What is your view?Explain and justify your responsein the context of Airbnb OR bike-sharing.

Answer the following climate change-relatedquestions.
i) Does climate change create a temporal or structural change? Explain and justify your response.
ii) Discuss how climate change can impact on tourism businesses in a destination of your choice. Discuss 3 ways businesses and/or destinations can mitigate the impacts of climate change.
