Using comments  in Java programs:

Comments in Java can be delineated by /* and */. For example, we can add some additional information to the sample program from the previous section, to explain its purpose and to document its creation:

There are two different notations to indicate that the text is a comment, and therefore to be ignored by the computer system.
Text enclosed in the symbols /* and */ is treated entirely as comment text, even if it extends over more than one line. We call this a block comment.

Text occurring on a line after the symbol // is treated as comment text.

If the symbol // is the first item on the line, this defines a line comment. These are convenient for brief comments, typically occupying one or two lines as follows:

// display a poetic message

There can also be valid code at the start of the line, followed by the symbol // and then an in-line comment. This is useful for a short comment applying only to the item on that particular line. For example:

} // end of class HelloWalrus
