Tricolour Light Emitting Diodes
The most popular type of tricolor LED comprises of the single Red and a Green LED combined in 1 package with their cathode terminals linked together producing a 3 terminal device. They are called as tricolor LEDs because they can produce a single red or a green color by turning "ON" only one LED at a time. They can also produce additional shades of colors (the third color) like Orange or Yellow by turning "ON" two LEDs in different ratios of forward current as shown in table thus generating 4 different colors from just 2 diode junctions.
