State Table
The state table representation of a sequential circuit COMPRISES of 3 sections labeled next state, present state, and output. The present state designates state of THE flip-flops before the clock pulse occurrence. The next state shows states of the flip-flops after the clock pulse, and the output section states the value of the output variables in the present state.
State Diagram
Additionally to graphical symbols, tables or equations, flip-flops can be represented graphically also by a state diagram. In the diagram below, a state is represented by a circle, and the transition in between states is indicated by directed lines connecting the circles. The example of a state diagram is shown in the Figure drawn below.

State reduction
In design of the sequential circuits, we are required to reduce the number of flip flops and logic gates used in combinational circuit part. The reduction of number of flip-flops can result from the reduction of a number of states in circuit. This can be possible if we are interested in input output relationship of circuit and not in outputs of the flip-flops.
State Assignment
The State Assignment procedures are concerned with techniques for assigning binary values to states in such a way as to decrease the cost of combinational circuit which drives the flipflop.
