Saturation region:
The region in the left of the ordinate VCB = 0, and above IE = 0, characteristic in which emitter and collector junction both are forward biased, is called as saturation region.
When the collector diode is forward biased, there is huge change in collector current with the small changes in collector voltage. A forward bias means, that p is positive with respect to n, there is a flow of holes from P to N. This changes the direction of collector current. If diode is sufficiently forward biased current changes rapidly. It doesn't depend on the emitter current.
