Quartile:

Just as median divides a set of observations (arranged in ascending or descending order of magnitudes), into 2 equal parts, similarly quartile divides observations into 4 equal parts. The value of the item midway, between the 1^st item and the median is called as 1^st or lower quartile and can be denoted be Q₁. The value of item midway between the last item and median is known as Third or Upper Quartile and is denoted Q₃. The median is called as the 2^nd Quartile and represented by Q₂.
