(i) A gas has of a very large number of molecules which are the real elastic spheres and are identical in all respects for a provided gas and are different for different gases.
(ii) The molecules of a gas are in a state of continuous, random and rapid motion. They go in all directions with different speeds, ranging from zero to infinity and follow Newton's laws of motion.
(iii) The size and shape of gas molecule is very small as compared to the distance between them. Hence volume taken by the molecule is negligible in comparison to the volume of the gas
(iv) The molecule does not exert any force of repulsion or attraction on one other, except during collision.
(v) The collisions of the molecular with themselves and with the walls of the vessel are perfectly elastic. As such the kinetic energy and momentum of the molecules are saved during collisions.
(vi) There is no concentration of the molecules at any position under the container i.e particle density is uniform throughout the gas.
(vii) A molecule goes along a straight line between two successive collisions and the average straight distance covered between two successive collisions is known as the mean free path of the molecules.
(viii) The collisions are almost instantaneous i.e the time of collision of two particle is negligible as compared to time interval between two successive collision.
