High Pass Filter
A high pass ?lter, as its name suggests, allows high frequencies to pass through the circuit whilst low frequencies are attenuated. The cut-off point or bandwidth concept is identical as in low pass ?lter.
Practically, the same circuit used for low pass ?lter can be adopted as the high pass ?lter with the output taken across the resistor this time. The resulting schematic is shown in the Figure (a)
Two alternate circuit con?gurations which are used to construct a high pass ?lter. As before, VDR can be applied to determine output voltage across the resistor in the Figure (a).
Certainly, when ω ≈ 0, Vo ≈ 0, and for ω → ∞, Vo → Vi. Hence at high frequencies, most of the input voltage appears at output making the circuit as a high pass ?lter.
The frequency response diagrams are depicted in the Figure drawn below showing low gain at low frequencies with the gain approaching 1 for high frequencies. The phase plot varies from 900 to 00 having the cutoff frequency, ω = 1/T, crossing at 450.
