GASEOUS STATE
It is the state of matter in which the molecular forces of the attraction between the particles of matter are minimum, is called as gaseous state. It is the simplest state and shows great uniformity in its behaviour.
The Characteristics of gases
(1) The gases or their mixtures are homogeneous in the composition.
(2) The gases have quite low density due to the negligible intermolecular forces.
(3) The gases have infinite expansibility and high compressibility.
(4) The gases exert pressure.
(5) The gases possess high diffusibility.
(6) The gases do not have definite shape and volume like that of liquids.
(7) The gaseous molecules move quite rapidly in all the directions in a random manner that is gases posses highest kinetic energy.
(8) The gaseous molecules collide with each other and also with the walls of container with the perfectlyelastic collisions.
(9) The gases can be liquified, if subjected to the low temperatures (below critical) or the high pressures.
