Forward Power Dissipation
The signal diodes have a Forward Power Dissipation, (PD (max)) rating. This rating is maximum possible power dissipation of diode when it is forward biased. When the current flows through signal diode the biasing of PN junction is not perfect and provides some resistance to flow of current resulting in the power being dissipated in the diode in the form of heat. As the small signal diodes are nonlinear devices the resistance of PN junction is not constant, this is a dynamic property then we cannot use the Ohms Law to define power in terms of current and resistance or voltage and resistance as we can for the resistors. Then to find the power which will be dissipated by the diode we should multiply the voltage drop across it times the current flowing through it: PD = VxI
