Fixed and Variable Costs
Fixed costs remain constant irrespective of a change in the volume of output, upto a certain level of plant capacity. They are incurred even when output is nil. On the other hand variable costs vary in direct proportion to changes in output. The distinction between fixed cost and variable costs is important in forecasting the effect of short run changes in volume of output, costs and profits.
