Non-Ideal or Practical Voltage Source For a practical source, the terminal voltage falls off with an increase in the load current. This is shown graphically in Figure (a).
This behaviour can be modelled by assigning an internal resistance, Rs, in series with the source as shown in Figure (b).

For an ideal source, Rs=0 and therefore VL =Vs.
Example
The terminal voltage of battery is 14 V at no load. When battery is supplying 100 A of current to a load, terminal voltage drops to 12 V. Compute the source impedance1.
