Data structure operations

The data which is stored in our data structures are processed by certain set of operations while selecting a particular data structure for the application we choose a given data structure largely on the frequency with which specific operations are performed.

               The following operations we can perform on the data structures:

1.      Traversing Accessing each data exactly one in the data structure so that each data item is traversed or visited

2.      Searching. Finding the location of data within the data structure which satisfy the searching condition or the criteria.

3.      Inserting. Adding a new data structure is referred as insertion.

4.      Deleting. Removing a data from the data structure is referred as deletion.

5.      Sorting. Arranging the data in some logical order for example in numerical increasing order or alphabetically

6.      Merging. Combining the data of two different sorted files into a single sorted file.

             Recursion is defined as defining anything in terms of itself. Recursion is used to solve problems involving time rations (multiple executions),in reverse order. Of course iteration or loop statements helps the programmer to carry out certain task a number of known times (for loop) or as long as the desired condition is true (while and do while loops), this is okay with a single statement or a set statements. But how to make a complete function executed repeatedly in terms of itself. Recursion is an alternative to iteration in making a function execute repeatedly (In recursion function calls itself).
