Clamper (electronics)
Positive unbiased voltage clamping shifts amplitude of the input waveform such that all parts of it are greater than 0V
A clamper is the electronic circuit which prevents the signal from exceeding a certain defined magnitude by shifting the DC value of it. The clamper doesn't restrict the peak-to-peak excursion of signal, but moves it up or down by certain fixed value. A diode clamp depends on a diode, which conducts electric current only in one direction; resistors and capacitors in circuit are used to maintain the altered DC level at clamper output.
General function
A clamping circuit (known as clamper) will bind upper or lower extreme of a waveform to the fixed DC voltage level. These circuits are also called as DC voltage restorers. Clampers can be constructed in positive and negative polarities both. When the unbiased, clamping circuits will fix the voltage lower limit (or upper limit, in case of the negative clampers) to 0 Volts. These circuits clamp the peak of a waveform to a particular DC level compared with a capacitively coupled signal which swings about the average DC level of it (generally 0V).
