- Electric Network A connection of various circuit elements can be called as an electric network.
The circuit diagram shown in Figure given below is an electric network.
- Electric Circuit: A connection of circuit elements of an electric network forming a closed path is called as electric circuit. The closed path is termed as either loop or mesh.
In Figure given below, meshes ABCA, BDEB, and BCDB are electric circuits as they form a closed path. Generally, all circuits are networks but not all the networks are circuits.
- Node: A connection point of many circuit elements is termed as a node. For example, A, B, C, D and E are 5 nodes in the electric network of Figure. There is no element connected between nodes A and C and thus can be regarded as a single node.
- Branch: The path in the electric network between 2 nodes is called as branch. AB, BE, BD, BC, CD and DE are 6 branches in the network of Figure.
