The voltage gain of the CE stage depends upon hfe. This transistor parameter depends upon the temperature, aging and operating point. Moreover, hfe may range widely from device to device, even for the same type of transistor. To stabilize the voltage gain A V of each stage, it should be independent of hfe. A simple and effective manner is to connect an emitter resistor Re as shown in the figure 1. The resistor provides the negative feedback and provide stabilization.

Subject to the above approximation A V is stable completely. The output resistance is infinite for approximate model.
