Arrhenius equation
Arrhenius presented the quantitative relationship among rate constant and temperature as,
.....(i)
The equation is termed as Arrhenius equation.
In which constant A is called as frequency factor. This specific factor is related to the number of binary molecular collision per second per litre.
Ea is activation energy.
T is absolute temperature and
R is gas constant
A and Ea both are collectively known as Arrhenius parameters.
By taking the logarithm equation (i) can be stated as,
.....(ii)
The activation energy Ea increases, the value of k decreases and hence, the reaction rate decreases.
When log k is plotted against 1/T, we obtain a straight line. The intercept of this specific line is equal to the log A and slope is equal to .
Thus Ea=-2.303R*slope.
The value of rate constants for the reaction at two different temperatures T1 and T2,
.....(iii)
Where k1 and k2 are rate constant at temperatures T1 and T2 respectively (T2>T1).
