The Amplitude Response
The amplitude response curve is magntiude of given transfer function in dB vs the logarithm of frequency, ω in rad/s.
- For the constant gain, K, the amplitude is the horizontal line of magnitue 20 log10 K.
- For the simple zero of order 1, the gain is zero in interval, w ≤ 1/T and increases at a rate of +20 dB/decade afterwards.
- For the zero of order n, gain is 0 in interval, w ≤ 1/T and increases at the rate of +20 × n dB/decade afterwards.
- For the pole of order 1, gain is 0 in interval, w ≤ 1/T and then decreases at the rate of -20 dB/decade.
- For the pole of order n, gain is 0 in interval, w ≤ 1/T and then decreases at the rate of -20 × n dB/decade.
- For the differentiator of order n that is H(jω) = (jωT)n, the magnitude is a constant ramp having a n slope of +20×n dB/decade crossing 0 dB line at a break frequency of w = 1/T rad/s
- For an integrator of order n, the magnitude is a constant ramp with a slope of slope -20 × n dB/decade crossing the 0 dB line at a break frequency of w = 1/T rad/s for a 1st order integrator).
Note that all the amplitude response curves have a slope of zero or ±20 × n dB/decade where n is order of denominator or numerator factors.
