Addition Law:
If one experiment has n probable outcomes and other has m probable outcomes, then there are (m + n) probable outcomes when exactly one of these experiments is operated.
In another terms, if a job may be completed by n different functions and for the first function there are a1 types, for the second function there are a2 paths and so on . . . for the nth function, an types, then the number of types to obtain the job completed is (a1 + a2 + ... + an).
Example: A college gives 7 courses in the morning and 5 in the evening. Calculate the number of types a student may select only one course, either in the evening or in the morning.
Solution: The student has seven selections from the morning courses out of which he may choose one course in 7 types.
For the evening course, he has 5 selections out of which he may choose one course in 5 types.
Therefore he has total number of 7 + 5 = 12 selection.
