AC voltage stabilizers
Magnetic mains regulator
Electromechanical
The electromechanical regulators, commonly known as voltage stabilizers, have been used to regulate the voltage on AC power distribution lines also. These regulators operate by using a servomechanism to select an appropriate tap on the autotransformer with the multiple taps, or by moving wiper on a continuously variable autotransfomer. If output voltage is not in acceptable range, the servomechanism switches connections or moves wiper to adjust the voltage into the satisfactory region. The controls provide a deadband wherein the controller will not act, preventing the controller from constantly adjusting the voltage as it differs by an acceptably small amount.
