Why did it Collapse?Ans. According to the local newspaper and reports, a bridge named 1-85 collapsed in Atlanta. It tookth place in the evening time when the road was really busy on, 30 March 2017. The reason of the bridgecollapse was basically massive fire which raised the temperature of the bridge and eventually collapsed.It happened when the plastic material kept below the bridge caught fire, after the collapse between a gastanker with another vehicle, the same morning. This leakage ignited the several tons of plastic piping.Although Georgia Department of Transportation doesn’t agree to the fact that the material kept belowthe bridge was not flammable, as reported, it was all planned by 3 con people. Q2. What type of structure is this?Ans. The structure of the bridge was a Reinforced Concrete Bridge Deck structure. It is an interstatebridge which passes from the center of the city, and is over the Piedmont Road. It also meets up 1- 75(another highway), known as Downtown Connector.Q3. Also, the cement material used in the bridge was not of good quality, that’s why it could nothelp the bridge to resist the heat.Q5. Suggest mitigative measures?Ans. Mitigative Measures for the bridge collapse are as follows:-1. The city should get well aware about the situation, so that they can help while co-operating thereconstruction of bridge as soon as possible, by implementing street diversions.2. The burnt and destructed part should get replaced with stronger and better cement and steelmaterial, so as to get a better bridge condition which can take the full load of the city and wouldnot collapse next time.3. The recreation work of bridge should be done in the night or in the non-peak hours, so that thelocals would not face a lot of problems regarding traffic. "
