  • "trained practitioners will look after the patient’s conditions and will guide them with theinstructions for post-operative medication. (NCBI)An eye which has undergone a cataract surgery with a lens implant isknown as pseudophakic eye. The cataract surgery consists of some steps; firstlyanesthesia is given to the patient then a small incision is made through the cornea of theeye, afterwards a small aperture is made in the lens capsule and thenphacoemulsification is done, a small suction of soft cortex is removed which liesbetween the lens nucleus and the capsule and then the lens is implanted and at the endthe eye is stitched which is the necessary part in any surgery. After the surgery, post- operative care of the patient is taken by recommending them topical antibiotics and anti- inflammatory drugs. According to the UK Cataract National Dataset found during 2001-2006,28.6% people who have undergone a cataract surgery had one or more ocularcomorbidities. Better post-operative visual acuity was achieved in 97% of patients whohad no pre-operative comorbidities and 79.9% of patients with one or more ocularcomorbidities. (NCBI) First time in Asia, an institution known as American Eye Centre hasrevealed a new treatment of cataract surgery using the most advanced all-laser cataractprocedure. This procedure is one of its knew kinds in Asia to deal with the visualdisabilities caused by cataract. American Eye Centre offersits clients a new procedure ofcataract surgery known as the Alcon LenSx femtosecond laser surgery; this equipment provides high level of safety and precise measurements while dealing with the problemof cataracts. Kenya is also playing a great part in the field of optometry. There arenumber of institutions that play a specific role in raising the doctors of optometry suchas Kenyatta University, University of Nairobi, Kenya medical training college and manymore. They have a large number of researchers, surgeons and assistant optometrists inthis field. They have renewed annual licenses to institutions that offer training in thefield of optometry and have also provided them new staff. Several internship trainingcenters have been developed.Kenya is considered of having a wide range and modernmethods of clinical diagnostic equipment. They have a large batch of surgeons who arehighly qualified in doing laser surgeries. They mostly do the screening and treatment ofcataracts using the OCOS. Masinde Muliro University is considered as Kenya’sforemost institutions in higher learning. They also provide their students with a 3yeardiploma in optometry. Using the modern laser techniques the Kenyan optometrists arenow able to deal with the age-related cataracts that are considered to be one of the mostsevere types of cataract. They have made this treatment quite affordable for theirpatients so that they may not suffer from this visual disability. They have also developeda number of laser treatments for people who are suffering from diabetes and because ofit are face many visual problem. They undergo Nd- YAG laser treatment for after- cataract capsular opacities. Resources:What is a Doctor of Optometry? - aoa.org. (n.d.). Retrieved May 1, 2017, fromhttps://www.bing.com/cr?
