"A month has been allowed for this permission to be granted, but realistically, this is the biggesthurdle that the research proposal faces, as there is the potential for the Zambian government toreject the request as having an outsider obtain operating information on the border post will havesignificant security implications for the relevant agencies to consider and consult on.The agencyproviding funding will greatly assist with this processOther stages of the project can also run concurrently – for instance, the timeline for physicalobservations and interviews/surveys will be drawn up so that they are alternated on an ad hocbasis to obtain a true random sample – it is anticipated to have thirty days of observations, andfifteen days of interviews with each target group.Ultimately, the study would be well servedwith around 2/3 of this amount of time data gathering, but allowing extra days will providecontingencies for unforeseen delays and bureaucratic hurdles, even once permissions are gained.Once all the data is gathered, there will be sufficient time for the results to be collated andsynthesised ready for meta-analysis of the surveys/observations that can be quantified.After thismeta-analysis is completed, a range of proposed changes along with their feasibility will berecommended in order to answer the research question and finalise the report for submission. 19 5.
