Likewise with droughts, there would be a stop in agricultural productionand a decrease in food security, as increased temperatures would result inevaporation of water from agricultural origins such as paddies.Rehabilitating small-scale irrigation canals in rural communities, where flashfloods are commonly frequent, has already played a crucial role in slowly aidingthe community from food insecurity. This, has improved flood mitigation wherefloods wash away crops. Hence this operating system delivers the need for redirecting water flow from rainfall during the wet season. However, in the longterm, this would be an ineffective solution as there is no control over the excessfloodwaters during the heavy rainfall seasons. As a result, a new system must beimplemented.Design requirements When designing and implementing a solution, regulations in the community mustbe defined and prioritized. Selection criteria is that the design requirements alignwith the expectations of the community, sustainable development, ethics andtechnical functionality. The proposal under considerations are: Cultural a) Does the solution take the necessary steps to protect, preserve the existingnatural environment and encourage traditional practices? If yes then why? Ifnot then why?Economical a) The benefits of the solution must outweigh the costs. b) The solution must be economically suitable to design, develop, implement, testand maintain the proposed solution. c) The solution must be inexpensive for the local community.d) Must consider the community’s budget. Sustainability a) The solution should take into consideration local knowledge, like the localopinion of the communityb) The solution must use and take advantage of the local resources available to thepeople of that community. c) Is the solution able to account for future generations given the high populationgrowth rate and high levels of food insecurity? d) The solution must be long term. e) Is the solution strong and durable? Technical Functionality a) Does the solution deliver its designed purpose? b) Availability of volunteers from the local community that will aid and assist inmaintenance. Environmental Impact a) Design implications that may affect the environment and weather."
